Let’s take a trip in the way-back machine.
It’s 1981. Ronald Wilson Reagan is President. The Conservative Revolution has just begun. Millions of Americans have awakened to the idea that government is not the solution to their problems, but rather government is the problem.
Teachers, in an effort to spread this message, have their kids chant a poem:
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan
He said we all must lend a hand
To make this Country strong again
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan
He said we must be fair today
A right to live, a chance to play
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan
He said we all must take a stand
Bringing freedom to all lands
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan
He said red, yellow, black, or white,
Liberty for all is right
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan
Yes, mmm, mmm, mmm
Ronald Wilson Reagan

Hello Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments
We all will say “hooray!”
Hooray Mr. President, you are number one!
The greatest of the men to lead this great nation!
Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans,
To make this country’s economy number one again!
Hooray Mr. President, we’re really proud of you!
And we stand for all Americans under the great Red, White, and Blue!
So Mr. President, we honor you today!
So here’s a hearty Hip Hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!
Now, surely no parent would have had a problem with that!
Surely no politician or pundit would have rejected such indoctrination!
Oh, wait. Of course they would have. Because it is wrong to promote a politician or particular political ideology to eight year old children.
Hopefully in the future, teachers will twice consider what political ideologies they are promoting in their lesson plans.
